KAREN DA COSTA

Dr Da Costa's research interests relate to international human rights law, including the impact of disasters on the enjoyment of human rights.
She lectures at different postgraduate programs, such as the Master's Programme in Human Rights Policy and Practice (Erasmus Mundus), the Master's Programme in Global Health and in the Master's Programme in Social Work and Human Rights.
She brings solid experience working at different academic and practitioners’ institutions, such as the Faculty of Laws, University College London and the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland, Galway. She has also conducted desk and fieldwork research in different consultancies for the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Karen is also a member of the Editorial Committee of the Yearbook of Internationial Disaster Law (Brill).
In the intensive course, she will deliver two sessions within the intensive course: the first one on the right to access the territory of a disaster-affected State, and on the possible extension of the R2P doctrine to these situations; a second one on the role of corporate actors in triggering disasters and on the means available to brining redress to the victims.
